Mom, what is a planet?

You thought you'd learnt it in school. Everybody knows what a planet is. And if you didn't you can always pick up a dictionary and look it up, right?.

Well I thought so too, but then I saw this on the news and I kid you not.

"After over seven years of debating, the International Astronomical Union announced that it expects to announce the official definition of a planet in September. After many-a-deadlock, they handed the task of deciding exactly what a planet is to a new committee, which includes historians and educators. 'They wanted a different perspective from that of planetary scientists,' said Edward Bowell, an astronomer at Lowell Observatory who is also vice president of the IAU's Division III-Planetary Systems Sciences group. If all goes according to plan, the wording will be proposed in their 12-day General Assembly meeting in Prague." (Courtesy of /.)

Unfortunately, they're serious.
Some people have too much time on their hands obviously.

hahahaha...
And those who follow them have even more time on theirs ;)

So now we are told that everything we ever learned in primary school science class was utterly wrong..and I thought planets were the only thing that wouldn't be so.I mean the definition of almost everything has changed and new experiments have proved most old science facts as bullshit..and now the planets!!!??

And is the moon defined as a planet?I always thought it's a "natural sattelite"-whatever that means!!

Man I loved those science classes..why I ever got into med school is beyond me!!

This is one of the most boring blogs i have ever read in my 28 years on the PLANET!

This is the typical kinna piece of blablabla they stuff the news with to fill up the white spaces and no one ever cares to read!

That's exactly why I have a policy of providing unsatisfied readers with a 100% money back guarantee...
Oh, wait a minute, you never paid.

Seriously, don't waste any more time around here, by all means don't read it, you're not getting any younger and before you know it you'll have spent 29 years on the planet. You can't afford wasting your time on boring blogs when you can be ummmmm doing less boring stuff.

I don't know christian and he doesn't know me but I would say that his blog is one of the most interesting I have ever read.

Looling to chris' "bugger off" whip lash at fellow unsatisfied reader hehehe..
Well, as a matter of fact i think u evoked quite an issue here.As irrelevant as it may seem, i think the planet redefinition is a symbolic way of alluding to setting new and imposed standards to the world, to the norms and to earth"hopefully still called a planet" as a whole..We r moving into an era of nonsense..butterflies moving selfishly and separately driving themselves str8 into the flames."Politics"define that..id say excuses to butt into other peoples business and usurp all there is to lay hands on by force."Westernization" "Globalization" errr dont get me started on that..

Actually chris those people are really weird!!!

As if you see someone who came to your home to tell you that he doesn't like it!!!
Who gives a shit to his opinion?!

They are doing the same here, he read then doesn't like it, and finally spend more time writing this comment to say this, I really dont know, if he thinks that you gonna say: "Yes, actually you're right, I discovered that", and then close your blog, he won't be really from this planet, and if he knew that you gonna ignore it, then also he's weird and from those kind of people whom have a very empty life that they need to fill by making fake dialogs with anyone!!

Well, it's his opinion and I gave everyone the right to voice their opinions on my pages when I started the blog and allowed public (and anonymous) comments with no moderation.

It's a choice I'm glad to make even if (or maybe because) I stand to get "different" points of view.

It might have been useless for him to leave a comment like that, but I still reserve his right to do it. I exercised my right to retort, or rather state my view too.

It's all good, I neither presumed nor claimed that my blog appeals to everybody and I am not even in the business of trying, I'm not a professional author.

I just keep a bit of a public diary and enjoy the occasional conversation as well as the available-online archive I have of some of my thoughts and photos.
