Moussaoui: "America, you lost, I won."

Kind of a disturbing thing to say don't you think?

Pick your favorite to read about how the unrepentant 9/11 plotter escaped the death penalty and got away with life behind bars instead.
CNN, BBC, or Al Jazeera

What else could a death penalty be good for....

What's the difference between a death penalty and life behind bars?
what's the point of living if locked up? it's a slow death process, or so i beleive.

bitekitty, this is rather philosophical but totally reasonable argument. However, to come up with an answer to "what's the point of living if locked up?" you will probably need to come up with an answer to "what's the point of living?" and then see how being locked up affects that point of living. That aside, I'm sure you can craft a goal or a point for living locked up, and I'm pretty sure some wrongfully accused imprisoned must have done it at some point or the other. I'm drifting away here though.

wyvern, this is another valid take on the situation. But my opinion is
1. I don't think the jury took that into account while actually arriving at the sentence.
2. You could argue that prison itself isn't punishment for someone who's as numb as this, and hence not essentially a better choice.
And 3. I still think there are a couple other good reasons for the death penalty, namely, solace for the families of the victims, and (as is the argument for supporting the death penalty in the first place) to deter others from doing the same.
